Balloon Sinuplasty

A small, flexible balloon catheter gently widens blocked sinus passages so mucus can drain. It may be performed in our office under local anesthesia, and Dr. Silvers took part in the FDA trials that brought it there.

In-office procedure

How Balloon Sinuplasty works

No cutting and no removal of bone or tissue. Dr. Silvers was part of the FDA trials that brought the procedure into the office, under local anesthesia.

01 A soft, flexible guidewire is placed into the blocked sinus.
02 A small balloon is advanced over the guidewire and gently inflated to widen the opening.
03 The inflamed sinus is rinsed to flush out mucus.
04 The balloon is removed, leaving the sinus open.
Recovery after sinus surgery
Days 1–3 Daily saline flush. Avoid blowing your nose.
Days 1–5 Limit activity. Most patients take regular Tylenol.
Week 2 Regular activity and flying can resume.
Week 3 Long-distance running and contact sports.
