What it is
Understanding allergies
An allergy is the immune system reacting to something that is usually harmless, such as pollen, dust, mold or pet dander. In the nose and sinuses, that reaction causes swelling and extra mucus.
Allergies can also contribute to sinus infections, post-nasal drip and a lingering cough.
